- יועץ של פלטפורמה מקוונת. מציע יצירות מהמלאי של הפלטפורמה, בדרך כלל מרחוק.
- מעצב פנים או מעצב. מעצב את החלל: פריסה, גימורים, ריהוט, תאורה. לפעמים ממקם אמנות כחלק מהקונספט, ורבים מהם מביאים יועצת אמנות לאמנות עצמה.

The titles blur. Art advisor, art consultant, curator, gallery advisor, decorator: people use them loosely, and online platforms add their own. So compare the roles instead of the titles. Each of the people below does real work, and sometimes one of them is all you need.
Who does what?
- Independent art advisor or private curator. Represents the buyer. Searches the whole market, galleries, auctions and artists, assesses value, negotiates on your side and manages framing, delivery and installation.
- Gallery advisory or gallery consultant. Helps you buy from that gallery's program. Often knowledgeable and generous with time, and the service is free because the gallery is selling its artists.
- Online platform advisor. Suggests works from the platform's inventory, usually remotely.
- Interior designer or decorator. Designs the room: layout, finishes, furniture, lighting. May place art as part of the scheme, and many bring in an art advisor for the art itself.
- Art installer or handler. Hangs and moves art safely, often with a good eye for placement. Does not choose or buy the work.
Are the free advisory services from galleries unbiased?
They can be very helpful, and galleries do their job well. That job is to represent their artists and get them the best price possible; it is the essence of a gallery. So a gallery advisor will, reasonably, show you the gallery's program first. An online platform will show you its own stock.
An independent advisor has a different job. I represent the client. I have no closed roster and I am not obligated to any set of artists, so I can reach out to any artist or gallery in the world. I still buy from galleries often, and when the right work is there I negotiate on your behalf. In most cases buying through a private curator costs less than at a large auction or through a gallery, because I carry none of the venue, inventory and staff costs a gallery has to cover.
When is a decorator or an installer enough?
If you already own the art and simply need it placed and hung well, an experienced installer may be all you need. If your designer is choosing a few decorative pieces as part of a finished scheme, that can be enough too.
An advisor is worth adding when you need to decide what to buy, when the art is a meaningful purchase, or when you want one person responsible from the first idea to the last hook. I choose and source the art and install it with my own insured team, so the person who chose the work is there when it goes on the wall.
How does an advisor work with your designer?
Alongside them, not around them. I read the designer's plans, palette and furniture layout before I propose anything, and I join early when I can, while lighting is still open. - Who handles framing, delivery and installation, and is that team insured?
