For the home office of a luxury residence in Caesarea I brought in two artworks that reflect the client's two loves, horses and music, by artists living and working in the client's country of origin. One was an existing painting I acquired; the second I commissioned from the same artist for this room.

החלל והאדם
בית יוקרה בקיסריה, ובתוכו משרד ביתי: שולחן עבודה עם שני מסכים, פינת ישיבה מול קיר עץ חם, גיטרות תלויות על הקיר, פס תאורה מעל. משרד ביתי הוא החדר האישי ביותר בבית, כי הוא נבנה לאדם אחד. לבעלי הבית שתי אהבות, סוסים ומוזיקה, והם רצו שהחדר יחזיק את שתיהן, ביצירות של אמנים שחיים בארץ המוצא שלהם.
מה החלל ביקש
שתי יצירות, לא אחת, וסיבה שישתייכו זו לזו. אחת לקיר מעל שולחן העבודה, שרואים כל היום. אחת לפינת הישיבה, שרואים כשהעבודה נגמרת. האמנות הייתה צריכה להגיע מאמנים החיים ועובדים בארץ המוצא של בעלי הבית, כי האופן שבו צייר מטפל בסוס או בנגן נושא בתוכו את המקום שממנו הוא בא, ובעלי הבית ירגישו את זה מיד. ושתי היצירות היו צריכות לחלוק קול אחד, כדי שהחדר ייקרא כרעיון אחד ולא כשתי רכישות.
מה ענה על זה
מעל שולחן העבודה, ציור של סוסים בתנועה, אפורים ולבנים, כולו אנרגיה ואיפוק. על קיר העץ של פינת הישיבה, נגן ליד פסנתר בצבע רווי, כחולים ואדומים מול העץ. הראשון היה ציור קיים שרכשתי עבור בעלי הבית. השני עוד לא היה קיים. הזמנתי אותו מאותו אמן, כך ששתי היצירות חולקות יד אחת ושייכות זו לזו משני צידי החדר. הזמנה שנוצרה לחדר מסוים ולאדם מסוים נושאת משמעות שיצירה שנרכשה לא יכולה להשתוות לה במלואה.
מה זה דרש
להגדיר עם בעלי הבית את שני הנושאים לפני שמסתכלים על יצירה אחת. מחקר בקרב אמנים בארץ המוצא של בעלי הבית, ואז רכישת הציור הראשון והזמנת השני מאותו אמן. אחר כך לוגיסטיקה, מסגור והתקנה במשרד, וסיום רק כששתי היצירות היו תלויות ובעלי הבית היו מרוצים.
A luxury residence in Caesarea, and within it a home office: a desk with two screens, a seating corner against a wall of warm wood panelling, guitars hung on the wall, a track of lights overhead. A home office is the most personal room in a house, because it is built for one person. The client has two loves, horses and music, and wanted the room to hold both, in work by artists living in the client's country of origin.
What it asked for
Two works, not one, and a reason for them to belong together. One for the wall above the desk, seen all day. One for the seating corner, seen when the work is done. The art had to come from artists living and working in the client's country of origin, because the way a painter handles a horse or a musician carries the place they come from, and the client would feel that at once. And the two pieces had to share a voice, so the room read as one idea rather than two purchases.
What answered it
Above the desk, a painting of horses in motion, greys and whites, all energy and restraint. On the wood panelled wall of the seating corner, a musician at the piano in saturated color, blues and reds against the timber. The first was an existing painting I acquired for the client. The second did not exist yet. I commissioned it from the same artist, so the two works share a hand and belong to each other across the room. A commission made for a specific room and a specific person carries a meaning a purchased work cannot fully match.
What it took
Defining the two themes with the client before looking at a single work. Research among artists in the client's country of origin, then the acquisition of the first painting and the commission of the second from the same artist. Then logistics, framing and installation in the office, finished only when both works were up and the client was satisfied.
