Manhattan, Skyline Residence. The collage above the custom bar.מנהטן, דירה מול קו הרקיע. הקולאז' מעל הבר.
For this Manhattan skyline apartment I selected one large format digital collage to anchor the custom bar. The client's love of entertaining guided the choice: the work draws on the visual language of glamorous social gatherings and references Un Bar aux Folies-Bergère by Édouard Manet (1882).לדירה הזאת במנהטן, מול קו הרקיע, בחרתי קולאז' דיגיטלי אחד בפורמט גדול שיעגן את הבר שנבנה בה במיוחד. אהבת האירוח של הלקוח הובילה את הבחירה: העבודה שואבת מהשפה החזותית של מפגשים חברתיים זוהרים ומתכתבת עם "בר בפולי ברז'ר" של אדואר מאנה (1882).
הבר הוא המרכז החברתי של הדירה: דלפק שיש, מדפים מוארים של בקבוקים וכוסות משני הצדדים, מוט פליז לרגליים, ובאמצע פאנל שנבנה בבירור כדי להחזיק תמונה אחת. הלקוח אוהב לארח. זה היה כל הבריף, וזה הסוג שאני מעדיפה, כי הדרך שבה אדם מארח אומרת לי מה הקיר צריך להגיד.
יצירה אחת, לא קבוצה. גדולה מספיק כדי להחזיק את מרכז קיר הבר בין המדפים, ועם האנרגיה של חדר מלא אורחים, כך שהאווירה נקבעת עוד לפני שמישהו מזג כוס. היא גם היתה צריכה לשבת בתוך עיצוב מאופק: כיסאות בר כהים, אבן אפורה, אור העיר דרך החלונות. משועשעת, אבל לא רועשת.
קולאז' דיגיטלי בפורמט גדול ששואב מהשפה החזותית של מפגשים חברתיים זוהרים: אישה בשמלת ערב ליד שולחן ערוך, גבר בחליפת ערב רוכן אליה, כוסות ביד, והדמויות נחתכות וחוזרות על פני פאנלים אנכיים, כך שהסצנה נקראת כמו מסיבה שנתפסה במראה. העבודה מתכתבת עם "בר בפולי ברז'ר", שצייר אדואר מאנה בשנת 1882: הברמנית מאחורי דלפק השיש, והקהל שמופיע רק במראה שמאחוריה. עבודה שמצטטת את מאנה מעל בר פרטי נותנת לחדר שושלת. האורחים מרגישים את ההתייחסות עוד לפני שהם מזהים אותה, וללקוח יש עבודה שאומרת במבט אחד בשביל מה הדירה הזאת קיימת.
התחלתי מהלקוח, לא מהאמנות: איך הוא מארח, מי מגיע, איך החדר צריך להרגיש בשעה מאוחרת בלילה. משם צמצמתי לעבודות שנושאות את התחושה הזאת ושאפשר להפיק אותן בגודל שהפאנל דרש. ואז החלק המעשי שאני מנהלת בכל פרויקט: הפקה בקנה המידה הנכון, מסגור, והתקנה מעל בר, מקום שבו מדפים מוארים ושיש מייצרים השתקפויות מכל כיוון, וגובה התלייה נקבע לאנשים שעומדים, לא יושבים. הפרויקט הסתיים כשהיצירה היתה על הקיר והלקוח עמד מולה מרוצה.

The bar is the social center of this apartment: a marble counter, backlit shelves of bottles and glassware on either side, a brass rail at the foot, and in the middle a panel that was clearly built to hold a single picture. The client loves to entertain. That was the whole brief, and it is the kind I prefer, because how a person hosts tells me what the wall should say.
One piece, not a group. Large enough to hold the center of the bar wall between the shelves, and with the energy of a room full of guests, so the mood is set before anyone has poured a drink. It also had to sit inside a restrained interior: dark stools, grey stone, city light through the windows. Playful, but not loud.
A large format digital collage that draws on the visual language of glamorous social gatherings: a woman in an evening dress at a laid table, a man in a dinner jacket leaning in, glasses in hand, the figures cut and repeated across vertical panels so the scene reads like a party caught in a mirror. The work references Un Bar aux Folies-Bergère, painted by Édouard Manet in 1882: the barmaid behind her marble counter, and the crowd that appears only in the mirror behind her. A work that quotes Manet above a private bar gives the room a lineage. Guests feel the reference before they place it, and the client has a work that says, in one glance, what the apartment is for.
I started with the client, not with the art: how they host, who comes, what the room should feel like late at night. From there I narrowed to work that carried that feeling and could be produced at the size the panel required. Then the practical part I manage on every project: production at the right scale, framing, and installation above a bar, where lit shelves and marble put reflections everywhere and the hanging height has to be set for people standing, not sitting. The project was finished when the piece was up and the client was happy standing in front of it.
