White dominates Tom Fima's canvases. Nightgowns, bedsheets, lace, fabrics slipping to the floor. The bed is the stage, and the domestic room is the whole arena, lit by artificial light coming from the room's own lamp. The figures are young women, her friends, whom she photographs and then paints from the photographs. Many faces are covered by fabric, a kind of play between concealment and exposure.

The gaze lingers on the relationship between body and fabric: bare skin against lace and satin, the folds of the blankets and the garments. It is no coincidence that the textile stands at the center. Fima's mother designed lingerie, and for her the fabric carries a memory of craft, touch, and cut.

At the heart of the works stands a shared female space. Women sew, mend, rest side by side. Fima lets her figures dwell in tasks that demand patience, a counterpoint to a world in which women no longer have the leisure to linger. In place of the demanding gaze, the painting offers suspension: time held still in a white room, a moment before one of them lifts the sheet and reveals her face.

Fima is an artist at the beginning of her path, one worth following as she develops. Even in these works a distinct painterly voice, material sensitivity, and conceptual maturity are already evident, marking significant artistic potential.
