לאן צריך ללכת רוב התקציב?
לקירות שאתם רואים כל יום. ברוב הבתים זה הקיר שחלל המגורים פונה אליו והקיר שרואים מהכניסה או מהמיטה. מתוך קווי המבט אני מגדירה את הקיר המרכזי, ויצירה חזקה שם משנה את התחושה של הדירה כולה. קיר משני יכול לשאת משהו שקט יותר, או לחכות.
פחות וטוב יותר, ואז להוסיף לאורך זמן

אל תשכחו מסגור, משלוח והתקנה

לכל דרך יש יתרונות וחסרונות. במכירה פומבית גדולה, מציעים רבים מתחרים על אותה יצירה, וכל הצעה דוחפת את המחיר למעלה. גלריה נושאת בעלויות כבדות, המקום, המלאי והגלריסטים, ומתמחרת בשוליים גדולים כדי לכסות אותן. קנייה ישירה מאמן מורידה את השוליים של הגלריה, אבל צריך לדעת איזה אמן ומה היצירה אמורה לעלות.

איך מתחילים

A set budget is not a limitation to apologize for. It is a brief, and a clear one. The question is not how to spread it thinly across every wall, but where it does the most work. Here is how I think about it with clients buying for a new home.
Where should most of the budget go?
Into the walls you see every day. In most homes that is the wall the living space turns toward and the wall you see from the entrance or from bed. From the sightlines I define the main wall, and a strong work there changes how the whole apartment feels. A secondary wall can hold something quieter, or wait.
Fewer and better, then add over time
One work you will still look at in ten years is worth more than five you stop seeing in a month. Buying fewer, better works also leaves room for the collection to grow with you. Plan it in stages: the main walls now, the rest as you learn how you live in the space. The budget becomes a plan across a year or two instead of a single spend.
Do not forget framing, delivery and installation
The price of the work is not the whole cost. Framing, glazing, delivery and installation follow every purchase, and in a New York building installation may need a certificate of insurance and a booked service elevator. Budget for them from the start, so the frame is chosen for the work rather than for what is left over. Budget planning is its own step in my process, before anything is bought.
Gallery, auction or artist: where does the budget go furthest?
Each route has tradeoffs. At a large auction, many bidders compete for the same work, and every bid pushes the price up. A gallery carries heavy costs, the venue, the inventory and the gallerists, and prices with big margins to cover them. Buying directly from an artist removes the gallery's margin, but you need to know which artist and what the work should cost.
Because I represent you and not a roster of artists, I can look in all three places. I have a network of artists and makers I work with directly, and when the right work is in a gallery I assess its value and negotiate on your behalf. In most cases buying through a private curator costs less than at a large auction or through a gallery, because I have none of those costs. Prints, editions or originals?
A limited edition print by an artist you admire can hold a secondary wall well, and a good frame makes a real difference to it. The main wall usually deserves an original or a commissioned work, because that is the piece you will live with most closely. A commission can also be sized exactly to a wall, which sometimes makes it the more sensible choice. I help you decide wall by wall, within the budget you set.

Tell me the budget, the home and the walls that matter most. I propose a plan in stages and a short selection for the first walls, then source, negotiate, frame and install. Buying art is also an investment in the home you live in, though no one can promise a work will rise in value.
