Creating Hope is an exhibition I curated of works by 27 Israeli artists, each interpreting the word "hope". It traveled across Israel, was shown on billboards in public space, and was presented at the United Nations Offices in Geneva, Switzerland, in June 2024.Creating Hope היא תערוכה שאצרתי, ובה עבודות של 27 אמנים ישראלים שכל אחד מהם פירש את המילה "תקווה". היא נדדה ברחבי ישראל, עלתה על שלטי חוצות במרחב הציבורי, והוצגה במשרדי האומות המאוחדות בז'נבה, שווייץ, ביוני 2024.
רוב העבודה שלי פרטית: משפחה אחת, קיר אחד, שיחה אחת. Creating Hope הייתה ההפך. מילה אחת, 27 אמנים, וקהלים שמעולם לא בחרו לבקר בגלריה.
כל אחד מ-27 האמנים הישראלים התבקש לפרש את המילה תקווה. זה בריף נדיב וקשה. אין נושא להסתתר מאחוריו ואין לקוח שצריך לרצות. מה שחזר היה 27 תשובות שונות, והתפקיד שלי כאוצרת היה לחבר אותן כך שההבדלים ידברו זה עם זה במקום לבטל זה את זה.

היא גם משקפת עד כמה אני עובדת מקרוב עם אמנים ישראלים, צעירים ומבוססים. להכיר את הסטודיו ואת הקצב של אמן מבפנים זה מה שמאפשר לי להביא את האמן הנכון, בתנאים הנכונים, לבית פרטי.
כדי לראות איך זה מתבטא בבית מגורים, הביטו בוילה עם הנוף לים בקיסריה או באוספי המלונאות. כדי לדבר על עבודה של אחד האמנים, או על הזמנת יצירה, כתבו לי.
Most of my work is private: one family, one wall, one conversation. Creating Hope was the opposite. One word, 27 artists, and audiences who never chose to visit a gallery.
Each of the 27 Israeli artists was asked to interpret the word hope. That is a generous brief and a hard one. There is no subject to hide behind and no client to satisfy. What came back was 27 different answers, and my job as curator was to bring them together so that the differences spoke to each other rather than cancelling out.
Curating is the same discipline whether the room is a foyer in Caesarea or a room at the United Nations Offices in Geneva. You look at the work, you look at the space, you look at who will stand in front of it, and you decide what goes where and why. I learned that discipline through curatorial work in established museums and by managing an art gallery in Tel Aviv. Creating Hope asked for it at every scale at once, for audiences I could not brief in advance.
It also reflects how closely I work with Israeli artists, emerging and established. Knowing an artist's studio and pace from the inside is what lets me bring the right artist, on the right terms, into a private home.
